My new world of blogging.

First of all this is the link to my new blog which can be found here.

We have a new way of learning or a new teacher to turn to.  Learning through educational technologies is now something we have to look at. It is quite possible we can teach ourselves which I felt I kind of did in this class because our professor challenged us to learn on our own. The quote I liked in his personal essay was.

In building that personal cyberinfrastructure, students not only would acquire crucial technical skills for their digital lives but also would engage in work that provides richly teachable moments ranging from multimodal writing to information science, knowledge management, bibliographic instruction, and social networking.

I didn’t know to expect form this class when I came here the first day. I thought for some reason we were going to teach lessons with power point honestly which is funny because of the edupunk stuff we read about. I think the coolest thing I learned was the animated gifs and uploading videos on youtube. I never really tried to upload videos on youtube and I find it funny that I have some videos on the website now. Taking this class makes me appreciate blogging now. I think the only time I really went to blogs was when I was younger when I was into video games. I wanted to know what people thought about this certain game so I would go to those blogs.  Now I know that I can use for more important stuff like my future profession or other stuff in my interest like working out. I do intend to make an effort to keep this blog and have serious issues instead of going to facebook where every one talks nonsense

Before starting AC 230 I had heard that it was about how to use media in the classroom .From the first day I knew it was going to be different. The relaxed nature of the classroom environment and the professor’s informal way of teaching made me less apprehensive. I came into the class with very little, if any, computer skills. The assignments were interesting and as the course progressed then I started to see the bigger picture. I think we were being taught to become responsible for our own learning, that all the answers were there for us to discover and that we needed to change the way we think about education on the whole and digital education in particular.

The course allowed me to see for the first time the idea of “open education” and its possibilities. Names like Jim Groom, Gardner Campbell, Clay Shirky and Anya Kamenetz suddenly became familiar as I was required to read the ideas these modern thinkers expressed. I learnt about the possibilities of “flexbooks” and how they could transform what happens in classrooms. Very soon I realized that this was not the class I thought I signed up for. There were still assignments to cater for K12 students but there was more emphasis on the philosophy behind the digital revolution that we are experiencing. I also learned stuff like certain aspects of Photoshop to create a GIF animation, how to create and embed videos on Youtube, and setting up my own blog . I was also able to interact with educational bloggers and listen to cutting-edge lecturers in their respective fields.

Although the entire course was interesting and informative, one feature stood out for me and that was the fact that I knew I would learn something new every day. I especially liked the Technology Entertainment and Design (TED) lectures but I was most intrigued by the idea of “open education”. I can’t think of anything at the moment that I did not like about the course, however, it would’ve been better if we had more time to do more examples of what we were being taught. I know learning is an ongoing experience and I will time to improve on what I have learnt.

Poll Summary

After all the feedback received, everyone thinks the internet is a great way of learning. It assists everyone with any type of help. Everyone today uses the internet and helps them find anything they need. As I saw from responses, the internet gives an advantage for more learning and knowledge. The internet improves our education by finding all the information we need.

This quote I liked:

“I believe that if students are being able to operate the internet, it gives them advantages to learning. It is very clear that students love to use internet. Even if students use it for social networking they still learn something. Its a great way of getting knowledge on anything you want to know.”

Obesity today is one of the major concerns affecting our society and no one is realizing that  something needs to be done. We all should start eating healthier and be more active so the population does not increase. This image will make a better understanding for students  to realize what obesity is and looks like.
