Hmmm .. What were the parts of the axon again?

Assignment

Pana Po’o
“It means to scratch your head in order to help you remember something you’ve forgotten.”

I choose this term  Po’o because when i become a Biology teacher i want my students to know it’s normal to forget things in my lesson such as the difference between mitosis and meiosis or if they forget the parts of an axon. The important thing is to take your time, do not get nervous and have confidence in yourself that you know the answer.

Story View : Science Classroom #2

Assignment : Dig through Google Maps Street View to find an interesting setting for your story. Let your imagination go wild and tell the story of what occurred in that space. Relate that story to a specific time in Geological History, How did it occur? What are some hypothesis for this creation. What are some rocks that exist in that area, and what are some famous formations.

Rock Types Found on Main Trail

  • Igneous
    • None
  • Metamorphic
    • Dolomitic marble
    • Schistose marble
    • Gneiss
  • Sedimentary
    • None
Rock Units

  • Stockbridge marble
  • Basal Marble Member of Wallomsac Schist
Minerals of Interest

  • Garnets
Interesting Geologic Features

  • Waterfall
  • Potholes

The most obvious feature at Kent Falls is, of course, the falls. Actually, they are a series of falls and cascades. Multiple falls and cascades, such as these, generally form where the bedrock contains alternating hard and soft layers. This part of Connecticut was once made of coral reefs, offshore from the northwestern part of the state. As the Iapetos Ocean closed when Europe and Africa moved our way, these reefs were squeezed and buried under other rock. With increasing heat and pressure, the minerals in these rocks recrystallized, and the former coral reefs turned to marble. Sand and mud around the reefs formed the impurities in the marble that cause some layers to be more resistant to the effects of the flowing water.

Describe yourself in ONE image

In this assignment my targeted grade would be 4th grade. At this age students are learning about themselves and what are the qualities they have. For this reason I chose this assignment.

Assignment: Find a picture that describes yourself and explain why.

I choose this image because helping kids has always been a passion for me and i think this image can describe one part of my personalty.

Troll Quotes – Science Classroom #1

Assigment: Find an image of a well known figure, add to it a famous quote by someone related in some way to the figure in the image and then attribute the quote to a third, related figure. From the official site: How It Works 1) Get a picture of someone people idolize. Obi Wan Kenobi, Barack Obama, Captain Kirk — any beloved public figure will do. 2) Slap on a famous quotation from a similar character from a different book or movie. Pick something close enough that a non-fan might legitimately confuse them.

I took a picture of a famous scientist (Albert Einstein) and took a different quote from Isaac Newton and the I named it by another famous scientist Marie Curie. Obviously the picture is of a male and the name is a female name. This can be used in a science classroom where students can look up famous scientist and see what they did and instead of learning about just one particular scienctist they can learn about three in one assigment.

Albert Einstein–  Einstein completed his General Theory of Relativity and in 1921 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics

Isaac Newton–  Newton described universal gravitation and the three laws of motion, which dominated the scientific view of the physical universe for the next three centuries. Newton showed that the motions of objects on Earth and of celestial bodies are governed by the same set of natural laws, by demonstrating the consistency between Kepler’s laws of planetary motion and his theory of gravitation, thus removing the last doubts about heliocentrism and advancing the Scientific Revolution.

Marie Curie- Curie discovered the mysterious element radium. It opened the door to deep changes in the way scientists think about matter and energy. She also led the way to a new era for medical knowledge and the treatment of diseases.
